Wichita. A vast expanse of flatlands and long straight roads. There's one exception though: ask anyone who's been here a while where to find a fun road and they'll tell you 'Thunder Road in Augusta".
I've been in Wichita for 3 years and I've known of Thunder Road for nearly as long, but I've never been. I finally went today, and here's the result. Tried something different this time: a lightly narrated video. It starts with an intro and about 7 minutes of typical Kansas driving, then hits Thunder Road at the 7 minute mark. Let me know what you think about this format: should I keep doing videos like this (with narration), if so what would you be interested in, or should I keep my mouth shut and stick to autocross videos?

That's my kind of driving. Relaxed, bounding across the landscape, and a horizon you can see for miles.

It's fine when it's straight for a few miles, but a few hours? It gets pretty bland...

I like cruising over rolling green more than just flat land. It prevents you falling asleep.
Unfortunately, there are no good roads to cruise down in east TN and the interesting backroads have been ruined by poor maintenance.
The interstate is unbearably crowded and the only backroad I know that isn't a craggly, uneven pos is ruined by cyclists and dump trucks.

Good video. You take your fun where it is available. What are you driving?

Oh my... is this the best "driving road" you got around there? Damn I honestly feel sorry for you... I thought QC was pretty bad, but damn, that's.... awful :)

Pretty much. The only fun roads are in housing developments so you really can't use them. The Ozarks are about two hours away and there are supposedly nice roads out there but I haven't made the trip.

It is pretty sad when I was thinking how great that road looked in comparison to every day Kansas life. I might have to check that out sometime!

I know, that was my thought while driving it too. "This is great, but that's depressing.."
You need to come out to autocross sometime...I want to race you

I liked the vid too, by the way.
I've thought about it, and it seems like fun. I felt slightly better once I read your response to someone else about what to look for in the cones and walk-throughs and such, but when my eyes see your videos my brain is just like, wtf am I seeing here!? I'm all the way up to 2200 miles on it now so I don't know if that means anything to you engine break-in wise.

Seriously, it's not anywhere as bad as you'd think once you're out there. Of course you won't know until you try (wink wink).
1000 miles is usually the recommended break-in, so you're car is more than ready to go. There's one this sunday, it's going to be great.

I've lived here most of 21 years, and I had never heard of Thunder road.
I gotta say though, it looks pretty boring.
